A new study from March 2023 found that above-average coffee consumption increased physical activity.

The study was approved by the institutional review board of the University of California, San Francisco, and included 100 participants with a mean age of 39 years. Participants were randomly asked to consume caffeinated coffee or avoid caffeine. The rule was that if coffee was consumed for two days, it was forbidden to consume it for the next two days.

How did the measurements take place?

Step counts and sleep duration were measured using Bluetooth measuring devices placed on the wrist. On days when they consumed coffee, participants took an average of 1,000 more steps per day than on days when they did not consume coffee. In contrast, sleep duration decreased by 39 minutes on coffee drinking days.

It should be noted, however, that the metabolism, i.e. the processing of caffeine in the body, is very individual and therefore has different effects on people.

Our conclusion of the study

Overall, it appears that physical activity is an important factor for health and therefore longevity, and that coffee consumption can have a positive influence on physical activity.

We can therefore look forward to our coffee every day and the additional physical exercise it promotes. Find your favorite coffee and taste the great My Coffee Cup selection.
