Malty but light and refreshing. It's the classic "Earl of Grey". Our blend of organic black teas gets its typical Earl Gray note from the natural aroma of bergamot.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Product information "Earl of Grey"
Assam, Darjeeling and Ceylon. The combination of black teas from these cultivated regions - refined with a touch of bergamot oil - is one of the most popular: Earl Grey. Malty Assam and noble Darjeeling. Both come from India. But it couldn't be more different. One of the large, fertile and humid tea gardens on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. The second comes from higher gardens on the southern slopes of the Himalayas. Mountainous, cool and foggy. The whole of India covers about 20 percent of the world's tea production. But: Indians also love their tea. They drink most of it themselves and only about 20 percent is exported. It was the British who took a liking to it in the 19th century. When they set up large tea plantations so as not to be so dependent on China. The tea blend's namesake: a Brit. Charles Gray was British Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834. And British influence goes even further. As a small island nation, Sri Lanka once also flew under the British flag. As a colony of Ceylon. Tea is still called that. But coffee, not tea. This was used in Sri Lanka until 1869, when a fungal disease destroyed the plantations. From then on, we cultivated tea. The growing regions are mainly located in the central highlands. There are high culture, medium culture and low culture tea. Depending on height. Another variable: the two monsoon seasons. They have different effects on growing areas. The result is many unique characteristics of different growing areas, just like with fine wine. But the three teas in our “Earl of Grey” blend also have something in common: all are traditionally hand-picked. And they go well together.
